Contemporary dance: “Sintonías”, aware creative movement

Sintonías” (meaning to be in tune with) offers you tools to practice and control your body in movement. With them, you will be able to explore infinite paths of expression through the body, getting rid of tensions and blockages in order to achieve a greater fluidity in your dance.

** No technical dance knowledge is required to participate in the “Sintonías” sessions.

** Although there are two people in the videos, you can perfectly well do it alone in your house. The videos already detail specific situations so that you can do alone what is done in the video as a couple.

Sintonías” is a body and movement format that emphasizes listening. A listening oriented towards two directions.

The first one, to the observation and attention on ourselves, thus activating a corporal development and honing in on body awareness as our main tool.

From this first observation the second direction is born, a direction towards the listening of the group: how to create in a collective way while giving importance to the whole and not only to the individuality, to assume the commitment to connect with ourselves in order to be in movement dynamics that nurture the group.

Sintonías” offers you an opportunity to explore the different dialogues that may arise throughout the sessions, allowing sensitivity, listening, intuition and the relationship with other bodies to place us in virgin and unknown lands and, once there, to go deeper into our own limitations and potential in order to find a unique and free movement that helps us to find our own path and integrate it into the body in an organic way.

An intimate and protected space where we will explore and play with movement through active listening, calmly observing every corner of our body in order to advance in the practice of “Sintonías”.

To be present with an attitude of fullness that flows from within, from your center, without effort, providing time to create and share. To strengthen trust as a body state and not a mental one.

We open this first space with the intention of engaging in listening to our body. A journey through the whole structure that supports us, listening and becoming aware of it and every corner of our body.

In this session we will go into the concept of verticality and horizontality and how to inhabit this double direction and at the same time, become aware of our center, that place from which we project movement.

Little by little we will detail the route giving you tools to be able to inhabit the basic structure that will give us body awareness, the first step to open ourselves to the movement flow. A way to invite our body to be at the service of creativity that we will gradually develop in the following sessions.

In short, to tune our instrument (body) to be able to connect with the here and now and let the mental side of it loosen up.

  • Listening to our body.
  • Concepts of verticality and horizontality.
  • Ground, midway and vertical work.
  • The three-dimensional quality of the body.
  • Bases, roots and center (our third foot).
  • Opposites in constant flow in rhythm with our breathing.
  • How to organize and activate a decongested and natural outlook.

With this session we will delve into the idea of the collective, of how to be and to contribute in the company of other bodies in movement in the same space and at the same time, with a well-tuned listening to oneself.

The idea of establishing dialogues with the other bodies with the intention of giving and receiving as an effortless back and forth flow, with the premise of assuming the commitment of being here and now in total openness so that we let intuition flow almost without realizing it, simply connecting with the action of sharing and not of showing.

To be present with an attitude of fullness that flows from within, from your center, without effort… giving time to creation and sharing. To strengthen trust as a body state and not a mental one.

What can I activate when I meet other moving bodies? Hence, the use of some techniques such as: suspensions, levers, the need for available hands and knees, concentration and awake senses to avoid shocks and uncomfortable corners. And how, in the face of situations of greater speed and risk, we have to take even greater advantage of our structure, refining each of its possibilities and training how to activate them, not from the mental side but from the intuitive side, and for this, practice and awareness are required.

  • Listening to the other body and my own. Active group listening.
  • The idea of ‘raft’ and how to ride it in company.
  • Giving and receiving.
  • The body: a communication channel of emotions, not so much of forms.
  • The invisible threads that connect us to other people.
  • Suspensions and levers.
  • Available hands and knees.
  • Peripheral view.
  • Immediacy and body availability – Solving in action.
  • Where is my focus? On myself and on other bodies.
  • Inhabiting the body from the idea of the collective: adding up!

Throughout this session we will share different dynamics with which we will be able to play, explore and put into practice the basic tools that we have detailed in video 1 and 2.

It will be in this section where we will explore the different dialogues that may arise throughout the session, allowing sensitivity, listening, intuition and the relationship with other bodies to place us in virgin and unknown lands and, in these, to examine our own limitations and potential in order to find a unique and free movement that helps us discover our path and integrate it into the body in an organic way.

This section is another step of the work that we have indicated in video 2. We are not only introducing the idea of walking by ”rafting” and sharing space with other bodies, but we will also need to pay attention to the idea of composition and dealing with more complex situations.

One of the most interesting challenges of this session, is working and training on trust, how to put all trust in my partners through movement dynamics. To strengthen trust as a body state and not a mental one.

  • From what place do we connect with the other body (awareness of the centers).
  • Touches to search/find movement qualities and directions.
  • How to accompany another body and how to let yourself be accompanied.
  • Active listening by connecting with my verticality (availability and flexibility).
  • Blind walks in company – Trust.
  • Shadow dynamics. Taking the place of another body.
  • Activate intuition with the help of the other bodies.
  • Transitions between one movement and another. The three suspension points of movement.

(All these aspects will always be an addition to those indicated in point 1 and 2)

On this occasion we will offer different dynamics to work in duos, trios and groups, which will offer us creative tools to expand our palette of movement, providing our body with new routes that enrich our dance.

These are premises that, either we can use them as a mere training to work on the body availability, attention and listening or, if you wish, body patterns that will help us discover other places, other movement journeys to leave the comfort zone and deepen the search for new routes. It is about finding mechanisms that nourish us to a greater richness in the art of expressing with your body.

We will also focus on becoming aware of the whole path that your movement takes, paying attention to the idea of beginning and end and all the details that are in that journey. How will we link it in an organic and seamless way? How does that supposed end of a movement help us discover the entrance to a new one?

So, it will be a session in which we will be awakening our intuition by leaning on a solid technique that will help us feel that it is at the service of creativity.

I invite you to understand the body as a channel of communication of emotions and not so much of forms, opening us up and developing our sensitivity for greater creativity and richness. Forms will be the result of this search in constant listening.

The word ‘laboratory’ in this session has a lot of weight and meaning, since we are going to welcome failure if it appears. Because as good scientists, who look for formulas through certain trial-and-error tests, we will have to look for and try different body ingredients until we find our formula. So, I propose you to replace the act of judging yourself constantly, with the idea of being curious and surrendering to the flow of that search to new places where you can dance, express yourself and, in short, connect with the most beautiful thing about you: your uniqueness, your soul in constant flow of movement.

  • Opposites that cause levers to enter new places.
  • Gaps as a three-dimensional tool.
  • Horizontal thinking, in openness.
  • Containment / explosion dynamics. How to navigate in a musical pattern.

With this session we arrive at the end of “Sintonías” with the idea of offering you in a clear way the holistic sense of this work.

As we have already pointed out, there are two main aspects that give meaning to the concept of “Sintonías”.

On the one hand, a tool for aware body work, that is to say, a means for responsible observation of our body by attending to the physical and that which flows in the deepest part of us, such as the emotional. The idea of how to consider and include all that which composes us (mind-body-emotion). The idea of cohesion by becoming aware of each of its parts to better understand the instrument that is our body and in turn, understand that this is a very powerful vehicle for transformation where the only key to change is awareness. To pamper, cuddle and embrace with love the instrument with which we inhabit life for a greater openness to the world around us. This approach of “Sintonías” is directed to people who want to work on personal development and growth through the body, the place where our uniqueness dwells.

On the other hand, “Sintonías” is an inspiring format for composing and creating in the field of living arts and in constant search and transformation. At the same time, it gives us the possibility to create something from the essence, from the truth. Physical guidelines that open new paths in search of other not so common colors for creation and, at the same time, to get out of the act of showing or displaying what we do and transform it into a sharing of who we are. Showing the beauty of the fragile as a treasure to be explored.

A place to locate the energy of each and every one of us whispering in the corners. The wings in movement, whirling around in space, the feet rooting in the ground and at the same time, we connect by means of some invisible threads through our bodies that keep the movements in step with a single gesture. Bodies that inhabit its verticality and with it the confidence from a place called serenity, honesty and love. Emptying spaces so that other bodies can enter. Driving us and accompanying us to dance from that place called listening, allowing intuition to be our best ally.
