My vision of Tribal Fusion Belly Dance
Tribal Fusion is a branch of belly dancing, which could be considered more modern and western.
I love it because its roots are in belly dancing, but it is fused with many other dances.
It began in the United States, and its development and history are very extensive, although it has existed for only a few years, and it is still evolving.
I am going to tell you my story, and how tribal fusion gave me greater openness, freedom and forms of expression in the search for my own dance.
I discovered tribal fusion the day I went to see “Belly dance superstars”. There I saw Rachel Brice dance for the first time, and she was majestically wonderful.
I spent the rest of the show crying. I connected so much with that dance that my soul cried for joy.
And ever since then I couldn’t stop studying it. This dance introduced a new language in me. I could integrate my dance with many others, and thus the language became richer, including Indian dance, flamenco, urban dances, etc., building on the foundation of the tribal fusion predecessor, ATS.
What I liked most of all, was to fuse it with contemporary dance, and here I must name my greatest influence, my platonic love in dance, my teacher and my friend: Illan Rivière.
Until I finally decided that I didn’t want to put any more labels on dance, and my contemporary tribal fusion became my soul dance. It was the one that opened the way for me to be able to do with my body what my heart dictated, without the need to follow rules, finding the freedom of movement, including everything I’d been taught, and unlearning everything I’d learned, in order to create again.
Tribal Fusion has a very precise muscle technique, and therefore is a ‘teacher’ dance when it comes to getting to know our body with the technique of what I call “the magic muscles”*.
*You can learn the magic muscles technique in the EMOTIONAL VISION videos: “The secret of the magic muscles”, part 1, 2 and 3. In them, you will find explanations of the contractions and relaxations of the vagina and the belly in different parts.
I have been teaching its wonderful technique for many years, until I found my own way through my students: seeing, watching and correcting them and adapting my teachings to what each one of them needed to be able to really control their body.
I will tell you how.
I have seen how the technique itself, alone, is not strong enough. Even for some women, more cerebral or with lower self-esteem, it is counterproductive to focus all the attention on the technique.
Has this ever happened to you?
Did you start looking around and comparing yourself to your partners?
And thinking that they do it better than you?
Or that your technique is not good enough?
Or that your body doesn’t respond to you like others’ do?
Or that it’s too hard for you?
All these thoughts make your body tense, and the technique just doesn’t flow right. You get the feeling that your dance is empty and of course it is, because your body is full of bad thoughts and emotions that make it tense.
And here is the key! Everything has to be worked together: technique, emotions, thoughts… and you have to know a few secrets to be able to do it. I will tell you all about it during your stay at Dancer’s Ways, during the technique courses and during the “Emotional Vision” course.
In the tribal fusion courses you will learn the technique in a simple and clear way. I will teach you in a very friendly way so that it will be very easy and pleasant for you.
I suggest combining the technique videos with the classes of the “emotional vision” course and the therapeutic belly dance, so that your learning is both nourishing you with the technique and nurturing your emotions and thoughts.
Dance your soul and be happy.
With love, always…
